Why is it important to neuter/spay your dog?

Spaying and neutering reduces or eliminates many risks for your young or new dog. Not only does it eliminate the possibility of unwanted pregnancies, it also helps with health risks, as well as behaviours related to hormonal development. Spaying and neutering helps to reduce the risk of uterine infection or prostate infection including cancers. Male dogs exhibit many territorial issues due to the hormones they produce including increased sexual behaviour. For male dogs, marking the territory or territorial issues, in general, have proven to be related to other areas of aggression.

How old should a dog be before neutering/spaying?

Typically, we recommended spaying or neutering your dog around 6 months of age. Spaying female dogs before their first heat, greatly reduces the risk of mammary tumours (breast cancer) later in life.

How much does it cost to neuter/spay a dog?

The cost to spay or neuter your dog varies on their age and size. Following your pre-surgical exam, your veterinarian will provide you with a more accurate estimate for spaying or neutering.
