The Persian cat has been around for centuries and while we do not know its exact origins, the breed has been rumored to originate from historical Persia and Turkey. There have been hieroglyphic references to a longhaired cat in those regions but we know for sure that the Persian breed was in the earliest known cat shows in the 1800s in Britain.
This glamorous, big eyed breed is known for its relaxed and affectionate nature. There are 2 classifications when it comes to the Persian breed. The “Traditional” Persian is closest to looking like the original bred Persians. The Traditional Persian has a pointed face with a longer nose. The “Show” Persian is the version with a flat face and nose. Whatever type you choose, the Persian is a sweet and gentle breed who is affectionate without being needy. The Persian cat is a wonderful breed for all ages.
